Hi Everyone! My name is Catherine, a Taiwanese American. I have spent most of my academic life in Taiwan but later did further studies in the States and Dubai (I also worked in Dubai for awhile). The reason why I came to Tokyo is that i would like to further improve my Japanese (ideally, to a business level), as the fastest way to learn a foreign language is to live in the target country.

As you can probably tell by now, I love travelling!! I’ve always been fascinated with foreign cultures and languages since a little girl, with a particular interest in Japanese (for several reasons :)) and Italian (with a classical choral singer background). One of my many many reasons, apart from English, Japanese is the most popular foreign language in Taiwan, and many of my Japanese friends say that they are shocked when they visit Taipei and realize that they can pretty much get by speaking Japanese (especially at tourist hot spots).

Having learned languages in several institutions around the world, I have to say that KAI is one of the best that I’ve ever attended. The teaching system is very well-rounded, equally dividing the 4 skills of language learning (reading, writing, listening and speaking) to the 5 days/20 hours of study per week. And apart from academics, they also offer activities that allow one to experience the culture while studying. These include Sumo (相撲), Izakaya (居酒屋), Ski & Snowboarding (滑雪之旅), etc (some of which I will write about next time :))

I was asked to write in English, but i might throw in a little Mandarin (my native) and Japanese here and there. I will be writing about Onsen next or next next time (as you can see from the picture below), and looking forward to sharing my experiences in Tokyo with all of you!
